Coexistence and customs at the residence: tips

When looking for places to live while studying, you may find the ideal area with all the expected amenities. However, the people with whom you will be sharing and interacting with will probably be different from you. Living with other students has great advantages, both for our socialization and for our learning. But there are also some differences in living together compared to living at home. Of which we will talk about below and provide the tools necessary to deal with these episodes in order to have a good coexistence.

Disorder and lack of cleanliness

Most students, especially those who have just moved into a residence, are so busy adapting to their new life, that they fail to fulfill certain obligations such as order and cleanliness in the common areas, which can be annoying for the rest of the tenants and for the coexistence.

Although this does not mean that these people are careless or have a lack of hygiene at a personal level, the best way to deal with them is conversing directly with them. In this conversation it should be emphasized that the work and responsibility in areas such as living rooms, kitchen or bathrooms, is shared and should be incorporated among the priority activities.

It is common to see unfamiliar faces in the residence, especially if it is your roommate who brings them.

Depending on the rules of the residence, there may be some limitations, but it is advisable to take the time to get to know the people. Also, it is important that you put yourself in the shoes of your roommates. Who are also far from home and being in company helps them feel better.

Bad manners

Within university students, there are always different personalities and attitudes, so in the residence you may meet someone who is not like you.

So it is important that you know how to give space to everyone and, if at any time you feel offended, do not hesitate to let them know, respectfully and cordially.

If bad manners or offenses prevail and also extend to the other tenants and coexistence, the ideal would be to file a complaint. But remember that this would be the last option, after trying to talk politely with the person(s).

Noisy people

One of the great advantages of being in a residence for university students is that there are individual study spaces. You should have no problems when it comes to reviewing, studying for exams or even resting.

This does not mean that the residence is boring. However, there should be rules regarding the noise that is made. There should even be set hours when no noise that might disturb others is allowed.

If within your residence you find someone who cannot turn down the volume of their radio or even their own voice and this is repeated constantly, the ideal is to politely talk to those involved and ask them to moderate the situation.

You are probably not the only one who is affected. So you can organize a meeting where everyone can give their opinion and create awareness in the person(s) who is causing the problem.

In no residence problems do not exist; in some more than in others, but it is normal for some conflicts to occur. The important thing is to know how to deal with them in the best way for a good coexistence, always looking towards the solution in order to live together in harmony.
