This scholarship is divided into two main concepts, which are the validation of academic credits and the granting of an economic amount to help with the costs of their studies. This means that the beneficiary will not always receive financial aid.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be a beneficiary of the Seneca scholarship, it is necessary to fulfil the minimum academic requirements to enter the programme. In this way, the student will be familiar with the university teaching system. Here we will explain what these requirements are:

To be studying a university degree within the Spanish territory.
To have passed at least 45 of the academic credits of the degree course and to be enrolled in at least another 30. In the event that the university has specific higher requirements for students to opt for a mobility grant, they must also meet them.
Apply for this grant only once.
Have enrolled for at least 45 credits for a full academic year, or at least 24 credits if you have half a year.
If the student has a disability of 65% or more, the load will be at least 12 credits in half a course.
Obtain an average grade point average of 1.50 in technical studies. In the case of non-technical courses, the minimum will be 1.20 points.

It should be noted that students are excluded from the Seneca scholarship programme if they have been studying for at least one year. Doctorates are also excluded.

Scholarship application

The scholarship application process starts in April or May of each year. However, the application process begins once the call for applications is published in the BOE.

For first and second cycle scholarships, the SICUE administrative team will have some time to contact the student who is likely to be a beneficiary of the Seneca scholarship. This contact can be through their email or telephone numbers. In this way, they will be able to sign the application form, which will already be filled in.

Deadlines and processes

Like most scholarships, this is one of the scholarships whose calls for applications are made annually during the months of April to May. In addition, students usually have a period of one month to submit their applications once the calls for applications are published in the BOE.

After the applications are received, the SICUE administrative team will evaluate the applicants’ academic records and select those who meet the minimum requirements. In this way, they will be awarded the average mark with which they have passed their subjects. Subsequently, the students who have obtained the highest score will be able to choose the place or university of their choice.

Benefits and amount of money

Until 2013, the Seneca scholarship offered a financial contribution of 500 euros per month, as well as a one-off travel allowance of 120 euros. However, in 2013 these scholarships were cancelled and reactivated in 2019, although, the economic amount of the scholarship benefit has not yet been determined.

However, if you want to know the latest updates, which include the benefits and financial amount of the scholarship, you can access the official platform of the SICUE programme.

The Seneca scholarship is one of the most sought-after scholarships in Spain, due to the possibility of studying at other universities in the country. Therefore, if you want to be a beneficiary of this scholarship, you need to be attentive to the calls for applications on the official platform of the SICUE programme.
