Sicue Programme: access requirements

When you reach the university stage, it becomes essential to study all the options available to you, be it universities, residences, and most importantly, special scholarship programmes and study facilities. In order to familiarise you with this world, we have prepared some important information about the Sicue programme. This is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, which has all the important features to further expand your catalogue of options to access university.

Do you know the Sicue programme?

Formally called the SICUE PROGRAMME (BECA SÉNECA), it is a special programme that has been offered for some years by the University Network for Student Affairs, also known as RUNAE. It is promoted by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities and is especially aimed at all students of Spanish universities who want to continue their studies at a university other than the one they started at.

This programme allows each student enrolled in a Spanish university to carry out part of their higher education studies in another university belonging to the RUNAE.

In general, these studies will be recognised immediately and without further processing of the credits obtained when starting the studies at the host university. In this way, it will automatically appear on the academic transcript of each of the students who apply for this programme.

Requirements for access to the Sicue programme

As is logical, in order to access this programme it is necessary to meet a series of requirements, which are listed below:

If you are applying for this programme in the current year, you must be enrolled and have obtained an application date of 22 September 2022.
Have at least 45 academic credits by 30 September 2022. This is provided that you are applying for the full course.
On the other hand, for students aiming to complete half a course at a university other than the one where they originally enrolled, they must have passed at least 24 credits by 30 September 2022.

Please note that there are some other very particular conditions that apply to each situation. Especially regarding the duration of the exchange.

For example, the length of stay at the host university will vary according to the student’s academic record, ranging from half a year to a full academic year.

Deadlines and how to apply to the Sicue programme

To apply to the Sicue programme this year 2022, you must ensure that you meet the following deadlines;

Once the first application has been submitted, the deadline for selection at the home university will start. In this regard, taking into account the average grade of your transcript on 30 September 2022, they will assess whether or not you are eligible for the Sicue programme.

Thus, a list of admitted students will be published around 27 April 2022. However, this list is not the final one, so you still have the opportunity to improve your qualification.

What to do when the list is published

Once the list of admitted students is published and if you have been selected, you will have to enrol at the host university.

In this case, if your application is rejected, you have the opportunity to file a complaint. This must be submitted within 10 days of the publication of the list, and can only be based on:

Error in the interpretation of the documents provided or an error in the calculation of marks.
Inclusion of documents whose validity is in doubt.
Any other duly justified cause

If your transcript does not contain a mark between 0 and 10, it must be calculated on the basis of conversion scales. The procedure is also explained in the call for applications.

Also, if the person requesting the change of university has a degree of disability equal to or greater than 65%, the requirements for applying to the SICUE Programme will be relaxed a little. They will only be required for 24 credits for the full academic year and 12 credits for half a year.
