The University of A Coruña is a young institution, born on July 20, 1989. Its priority objectives, also always related to its social function, are "to provide the necessary education for the formation of students, as well as the training of its own staff and teachers at all levels of education, encourage research and spread culture".

 In these years, the University has managed to develop a dynamic, heterogeneous community, which is formed in various areas of knowledge. Most of its facilities are distributed around two campuses: the A Coruña campus, made up of the smaller campuses of A Zapateira, Elviña, Oza and Riazor; and the Ferrol campus, which contains the Esteiro campus and the Serantes campus.

 In total, the university has 22 own centers (6 on the Ferrol campus and 16 in A Coruña) and 3 affiliated centers (the University School of Nursing, the University School of Labor Relations and the University School of Tourism). Along with these, the University Center for Educational Training and Innovation, the Center for Technological Innovation in Building and Civil Engineering and the Technological Research Center complete the facilities of the Galician institution. .

 Although both Spanish and Galician are the official languages of the university, its institutional language is the latter.
