The University of Extramadura was created in 1973. Its history is Intimately linked to the Extremaduran community. Initially it was made up of the Faculty of Sciences of Badajoz, the University College of Cáceres, the Schools of Badajoz. Universities from the EGB Faculty of Cáceres and Badajoz and the School of Agricultural Technical Engineering of Badajoz.
Since then, the University of Extremadura has increased its students, degrees and centers until it has four spaces consisting of the Badajoz campus, the Cáceres campus, the Mérida University Center and the Plasencia University Center.
More than 24,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students study at the University and another 8,000 take doctoral courses, their own degrees or continuing training. 1,500 teachers teach and more than 800 administrative, technical and service personnel work.
